Location

Golfito gets its name from its location within a miniature San Francisco-style bay, accessible through a narrow channel from the Golfo Dulce. Golfito is the center of the southern Region of Costa Rica. The southern end of the town is the main center with many bars and restaurants, several hotels, make shift marinas and a municipal dock. 34O kilometers southeast of San Jose, 58 kilometers northwest of Paso Canoas. Golfito can also be reached by sea from Puerto Jimenez, by land through Rio Claro on the Inter- American Highway and directly by air via SANSA, Nature Air , and other private charter planes.
